Rhythm and Passion takes you on a mystical journey to discover the people, the stories and the drama behind salsa, tango and gaucho.
The international cast of singers, musicians and dancers performs before a backdrop of exquisite period scenery, recreating the settings where these passionate and sensual dances were born.
Feel the intensity of the smoke-filled bars and gambling halls of Buenos Aires, where the illicit tango evolved. Revel in the joy and exhilaration of salsa dancing in the streets in the Caribbean islands. Be seduced by the Argentine cowboy – the gaucho –and the dramatic storytelling of his art.
Act I
Our guide lures us back in time to the origins of tango in the seedy bars of 1920's Buenos Aires, where the outcasts of society struggle with love, betrayal, joy and conflict.
She then whisks us to the streets and nightclubs of 1950's Caribbean, to experience the vibrant celebration of love and life that is salsa.
The mood changes, bringing us to the Argentine countryside of the late 1800s, where the gauchos sing and dance amidst danger and conflict.
Act II
The second act conveys modern simplicity, with superb lighting effects setting the mood for the contemporary interpretations of the dances.
We feel the pulsing rhythms of the salsa, and understand the dilemma of choosing between two lovers – salsa or tango? We surrender to the exotic sensuality of the tango, each dance telling a story of love or heartbreak.
And we revel in the energy of the gauchos, as the explosive rhythms of the drums, the swirling ponchos of the dancers, and the speed and intensity of the boleadoras proclaim the pride and determination of a rural culture. |
